LOCATION
The Mount Vernon Amateur Radio Club's repeater is located on the George Washington National Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia. The building is 333 feet tall sitting on Shooter's Hill which is 120 feet above sea level. The site provides a panoramic and unobstructed view in all directions with excellent coverage of the immediate NoVA and D.C.
THE HARDWARE
K4US/R is MVARC's 2m Yaesu System Fusion repeater. The K4US repeater is operated in Automatic Mode Selection allowing both analog FM users and Yaesu System Fusion digital users to share use of the repeater. At this time, K4US/R does not have a Wires-X node attached to it for internet/VoIP linking. K4US/R also does not have a 440 band input/output pair. The antenna is a 4 bay folded dipole array in a 360 degree configuration feed by 100 feet of 1/2" Heliax through a cavity duplexer.
PLEASE NOTE: Analog FM-only users may hear digital traffic that sounds like static. To suppress this traffic, you can program your radio to require the same 141.3 Hz PL tone on receive. This is known as tone receive squelch, T-SQL, and other various names. Refer to your radio's manual for details.
